Back in 2014, we opened Gotan because we wanted somewhere we'd actually want to hang out. Partnering with Counter Culture Coffee made sense—they care about sourcing and roasting as much as we care about serving. Every bean tells a story about the farmers who grew it and the land it came from. Our kitchen follows the seasons, building menus around what's fresh and what tastes best right now. The baristas pulling shots and the cooks plating dishes share the same obsession with getting things right. Walk into any Gotan and you'll notice the mix—dramatic design touches meet comfortable seating, solo coffee drinkers share space with big group tables. Four locations later (Manhattan, Hoboken, Jersey City, and Weehawken), we're still doing what we set out to do: serving damn good coffee and food in spaces where people want to stick around.

People call us their favorite coffee shop, and we don't take that lightly. They mention our baristas by name, come back for specific dishes, and bring their friends. The word "community" gets thrown around a lot, but when customers treat your café like their living room, you know it's real.
